Handcrafts made from African prints

Helen Richards has her degree in custom made dressmaking. She taught very successfully in the US classes for beginners and amateurs. Now she has started to sew again and design Tote bags, Children, shorts, bedsheets, pillowcase, tablecloth and napkins etc. made from the beautiful African Tie and Dye & Batik prints. This creations are available to buy in our Headquarter and she is willing to take also orders for special ideas. All the raised money go to the foundation and we thank you already in advance for your interest and support.

We'r looking for Volunteers in all fields and ages from 18 - 65

Requirements and offers:

- English fluently or conversational is o.k
- We need you for 2-6 months
- You must be healthy and can take the heat weather wise
- You must have all vaccination for Ghana
- You need to pay a onetime registration fee of $150,-- before arriving to make sure your place is reserved for you.
- For any additional month you like to stay add. $350,-- (Accomodation with one meal a day)
- You will need a pocket money off approx. $ 10,--/day ( for transportation enjoyment etc.)
- Married couple will get a discount
- Accommodation and 1 meal/day from the host family provided ( we provide equipment so you can prepare your own additional meals)
- We loan you a cellphone so you can communicate and be reachable
- Shuttle from and to the airport provided
- You will work with children, teenagers and young adults

Accommodation

These are our new three chalets from outside. A perfect offer for our small budget tourists. Our great location (only 35 minutes to the airport) gives also an affordable way to spend the last day in Ghana in a very nice atmosphere, before flying home. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, internet or a place to relax? No Problem! You can find all that in the same compound....	The floor is layed with tiles and very clean. Mosquito nets and student matresses included. The rooms are big enough for two guests to sleep in and they are well ventilated... Rate: GHS 5,--/night
This is Chalet B for example. As you can see you have a lot of space to leave all your stuff in the room. You can enjoy your stay also because there's a fastfood restaurant and a bar on the compound. 	Hi this is me, Dorothy. I'm from Ulm (Southern Germany). I visited Richards Foundation in August 2008. And in my opinion it was a too short time that I spent there. IT IS definitely worth visiting. A very lovely place.	This is me playing football with Benjamin (Helen's son) at the Richards Foundation. I hope I can return back as soon as possible. Helen cared a lot for me. Thanx. And by the way, me as a non-fish-eating-person I loved the wonderful Tilapia ;-)

Sie brachte uns eine Spende die wir sehr gut fuer unser Sommer und Nachmittags Schulprogramm gebrauchen koennen. Die Spende beinhaltete reichlich Spielzeug aber auch Malbuecher, Buntstifte, Babyitems und Gewand und Decken. Die "Richards Foundation" ist eine Hilfsorgarnisation fuer beduerftige Menschen in Ghana.
Sie wurde im Jahre 2008 von dem Ehepaar Paul und Helen Richards mit der Unterstuetzung von Herrn Mattheus Ansah gegruendet.
Die baulichen Gegebenheiten wurden schon vor ca. 10 Jahren vom Ehepaar Richards begonnen und sind nun grossteils abgeschlossen. Das Gebaeude wurde aus eigenen Mitteln erbaut und ist schuldenfrei.
Dass heisst, jede Spende kann sogleich fuer die Projekte eingesetzt werden und wird nicht wie bei vielen anderen neuen Organisationen erst fuer den Bau verwendet.

Wie und wem wollen wir helfen?

Wir, das Team dieser Organisation, sehen uns im Sektor “Capacity building” und “Continuous education” taetig. Unser Ziele sind die aufstrebenden, wissbegierigen, fleissigen Ghanaer, die keine Chancen vom Staat bekommen, ihre beschwerliche, manchmal aussichtslose Lage selbst zu meistern. Unsere Hilfe, diesen Menschen ein gutes Leben im eigenen Land zu ermoeglichen, reduziert aber auch die Abwanderung nach Europa oder USA. Dem Staat Ghana bleiben daher die wichtigen, tatkraeftigen, ausgebildeten eigenen Buerger erhalten die mithelfen, die Wirtschaft anzukurbeln.

Nun was bedeutet Capacity building?

Darunter versteht man folgendes:
Wie jede andere Nation hat auch Ghana Mitbuerger, die eine gewisse Kapazitaet mit sich bringen. Diese Menschen wollen wir aus der Masse herausfiltern und von der Strasse holen, wo sie von Schmutz, Gefahr und Verelendung bedroht sind.
Des Weiteren werden diese Menschen mit Rat und Tat sowie Kursen, aber auch in speziellen Faellen, mit einem rueckzahlbaren Micro Kredit fuer ihre Geschaefte, die sie meistens auf der Strasse abhandeln, von uns unterstuetzt.

Wir helfen Ihnen dann aber auch, ihre Buchfuehrung richtig zu machen, damit sie lernen Geld zu sparen. Das ist fuer Ghanaer sehr neu, da diese Menschen einen anderen Lebensstil haben. Sie leben von der Hand in den Mund und machen daher auch nur Jobs oder Geschaefte von einem Tag zum anderen. Vorausplanung ist ein Fremdwort. Wir helfen ihnen, fuer die Zukunft zu planen und sich abzusichern.

Zusaetzlich koennen Teenager aus unserem Sortiment an verschiedenen Berufen waehlen in denen wir sie ausbilden.

Herr Richards, ein Akademiker, ist gelernter Grafikdesigner, Schildermaler und Siebdrucker. Er unterrichtet Jugendliche in diesem Bereich. Wir muessen auch anerkennend sagen, dass Herr Richards mit seinen geschickten Haenden alle baulichen Veraenderungen in den letzten Jahren selbst durchgefuehrt hat. Damit haben wir sehr viel Geld gespart.

Frau Richards, gelernte Damenkleidermacherin und Buchhalterin, uebernimmt die Klassen fuer Naeherei und Buchfuehrung. Ausserdem betreut sie die im Haus lebenden Studenten und ist als Volunteer Coordinator taetig.

Herr Ansah, 25 Jahre an der Boerse in New York als Broker taetig, hat die Administration und die Bankgeschaefte uebernommen.

Lassen sie mich hier erwaehnen dass wir dringends Volunteere zur Unterstuetzung brauchen.

Waehrend die Jugendlichen bei uns sind lernen sie aber noch viel mehr. Sogar Benehmen des taeglichen Umganges oder Verstaendnis fuer die Umwelt und Hygiene sind wichtige Themen. Der Bogen ist enorm weit gespannt.

Was bedeutet Continuous Education ?

Im grossen und ganzen kann man es mit einer Volkshochschule vergleichen. Wir bieten verschiedenste Kurse an, die wenn gesponstert und daher guenstig, fuer die Leute sehr attraktiv sind. Ganaer wollen lernen und sind sehr wissbegierig. Die Beitraege, die an die einheimischen Lehrer bezahlt werden, koennen aber von der Bevoelkerung nicht aufgebracht werden. Dass heisst: wir brauchen Sponsoren die diese Kurse finanziell unterstuetzen.
Wir haben Lehrer fuer verschiedene Sprachen, Berufe, Hobbies, Gesundheit, Familienplanung, Business sowie ein “After School Program”.

Hier koennen die Kinder im Alter von 4 – 15 Jahren ihre Freizeit mit Lesen, Malen, Spielen etc. verbringen, wobei wir darauf achten dass die Kinder bei Bedarf von uns gewaschen und von den Sachspenden neu eingekleidet werden.
Ein Angebot von einer freien Mahlzeit pro Tag und evt. einfache medizinische Versorgung fuer die Kinder und jugendlichen Beduerftigen von der Strasse ist unser Ziel in den naechsten 6 Monaten. Auch hier brauchen wir Sponsoren die uns damit helfen diesen Plan in die Realitaet umsetzen zu koennen. Momentan arbeitet Frau Richards am Aufbau einer Bibliothek. Wir haben mittlerweile schon dankend einige Spenden aus der USA erhalten und erwarten noch viele mehr. Buecher sind eine Raritaet in einem Ghana- Haushalt. Viele Kinder wissen nicht einmal wie man ein Buch handhabt.

Wie koennen Sie uns helfen?

- Sachspenden:

Bekleidung, Schuhe ( ganz dringend), Matratzen, Bettwaesche, Handtuecher, Kleinmoebel, Nachtischlampen, Schulartikel, Wundverbaende, Pflaster, Wundheilsalbe, Zugsalbe, Desinfektionsfluessigkeiten, etc. Fuer den Transport haben wir die Firma Ghanalogist ( www.ghanalogist.com) in Deutschland Naehe Koeln als Partner gewinnen koennen.

- Geldspenden:

Sie koennen natuerlich bestimmen wo ihre Spende eingesetzt werden soll. Ansonsten werden die Spenden z.B. fuer den Transport der Sachspenden, Administration, Volunteerbetreuung verwendet. Weiters auch fuer den Einkauf an Utensilien fuer die Berufsklassen ( Stoffe und Zubehoer, Papier, Folien, Druckerei Farben, Rattan, Bambus etc.)

Es werden davon keine Gehaelter gezahlt. Herr Richards betreibt sein eigenes Druckereiunternehmen. Frau Richards leitet das hauseigene Gasthaus und Herrr Ansah ist bereits in Pension.

Ich moechte darauf hinweisen dass wir Unterkuenfte bereithalten fuer alle diejenigen, die als Spender unsere Orgarnisation besuchen und besichtigen wollen.

based in Ghana West Africa.

We have available positions for Volunteers from all around the world and welcome them to our program.

We have ongoing fund raising activities and are currently accepting donations from all sources. All are invited to help make a difference here in Ghana. Ghanaians are hard working people and would like to learn more so that they can come out of poverty. Our programs are geared towards a successful skill acquired and we have the tools to do so. Join us in this cause and enhance your own experience in a Ghanaian society while giving back to society. Ghana is the most stable country in west Africa and a model African country to achieve the middle income status by 2010 according to the World Bank.

Our facility and infrastructure is already built by the Executives' own hard earned savings in order to launch this NGO project to give back to society and help alleviate poverty by providing not only a skill but employment to all. Why do we need Volunteers?

This is Mrs. Helen Richards. She is one of the three directors of RICHARDS FOUNDATION and as Volunteer Coordinator she takes good care of our Volunteers.

Originaly from Austria/Vienna and with living experience on three continents she is able to manage all your concerns and little problems so that your stay will be for you an unforgettable great vacation.

Volunteers are very important to us because without YOU we are unable to serve the community.
Ghana has a population of about 20,000.000 (estimated) people. The Country is bit smaller than Germany and the infrastructure is still developing at a faster pace. There has been big improvements over the last 10 years but still in sectors like children education, medical support, life style, and also farming we have still a lot to do.

So you see..... we need your physical strength and also your trained skills to give our projects the right boost.

Projects

Overview

Capacity building: In this program we help mostly young people with skills for the future and petty traders on how to manage their books and maximise their profits.

Continuous Education: We offer summer classes, after school programs, early childhood education, etc. where children, and teens are welcome. We are still looking for Teachers to volunteer.

Soup kitchen for the needy: This program is under construction. We need more donations to buy disposable plates, spoons, pots, chairs and tables and of course the ingredients for the soup. We plan to serve at least one free meal a day to about 100 people from the neighbourhood. This would require a budget of about US$ 80,--/meal. Please help feed the poor and the street children. Any amount that you would like to donate is welcomed and appreciated.....

Upon arrival, our volunteer coordinator and staff member will be at the Airport to pick you up. Please don't forget to provide your flight informations like flight number, airline, date and time of arrival. We will welcome you with a big sign of our NGO.

Money transfer:
In case you recognize you are not liquid enough, we can offer you an affordable money transfer from Europe and America.

Communication:
Our house has Internet. You can also call home to very affordable rates.....
We speak English and German....

Supervision and Health:
We call you once a week to our headquarter to find solutions in case of difficulties. At this meetings you will also meet your colleges and socialize with them. New volunteers and new informations are introduced at this meetings. We help you also in case of any medical issue to find assistance.

Enjoyment:
We provide Field trips for you ( rates are from GHS 25,-- to GHS 150,--). Choose and enjoy the countryside with Bonfire, Barbecue, Photo Safari and much more.......

Josefa Fasching

Josefa as a volunteer, stayed in our facility for 6 months. As a trained midwife original from Austria/Europe, she went to Apam Hospital to volunteer upon her arrival. After that she moved into our facility whereby she was giving pre and post counselling to the poor and needy at no cost to them. When she gets back to Austria she will be helping us our fund raising activities for our NGO. She want's to come back sometime and we will be happy to have her back in our organization...... Thanks, Josefa you are wonderful and we will be looking forward to your return.
